Earlier this week I posted a link to a fun story about what would happen if a hurricane struck Tampa during the RNC convention. Could this happen?? It’s too early to tell.
Of course here in Florida we’re used to the alarms, rushing to board up, the stockpiling of food, only to learn the hurricane decided to go someplace else and we breathe a collective sigh of relief. It’s the same routine, but if you don’t take it seriously you risk losing everything. Actually there’s nothing really “fun” about hurricanes and right now there seems to be a little something brewing out there that should make you freshen up your emergency plan.
Twenty years ago this week Hurricane Andrew struck and it left devastation that hadn’t been seen in years. The lessons learned forever changed how we deal with hurricanes and it was a wake up call to always be ready for the worst. Having gone through the double punch of Frances and Jeanne they pale in comparison to Andrew, but the danger is very real so please don’t “blow it off”.
If you can, listen to Public Radio WLRN this Friday at 9:00 a.m. They’ll be playing a one hour documentary of audio recordings from that time that include calls from residents experiencing a catastrophe.
