Florida Fresh & Other Slices

I'm a native Floridian living in West Palm Beach and this public blog represents information found on-line through the state archives, items from my own personal collection (PC), share-friendly sites or those I have obtained permission to post/link.

Many people don't know what old Florida was like so I want to show you all that's historic, beautiful, retro, kitschy and untamed. Much of it has changed now, but you can still be a part of the adventure if you look in the right places. I like posting music from my state too, check out my band Angry Pudding online.

Submissions are welcomed.

Enjoy your stay in the F.L.A.

Historic Belleair Hotel at Risk For Demolition

For those of you that reside in Bellair, Clearwater or anywhere in Pinellas County, there is a meeting TONIGHT at 7:30 to decide the fate of the historic Belleview Biltmore Hotel.

This is one of Florida’s last grand wooden hotels and the new owners would like to tear most of it down for town homes. This goes against the fact that it was added to the National Register for Historic Places in 1979, but who really pays attention to all those annoying historical preservation policies, right?

More information on this complicated web of developers, plans and economic issues can be found on the Save The Biltmore web page.

If you can’t attend the meeting then email your thoughts to the Mayor at gkatica@townofbelleair.net or the town commission at commission@townofbellair.net
