R.i.p. Harry Crews →

His novels wove dark and twisted tales that left people fascinated or offended. His books “out Gothic Southern Gothic..”, and though he attained a cult status, he never made it to the best seller list. Mr. Crews passed away in Gainesville on Wednesday, he was 76.

Edward Scissorhands I incorrectly listed as being filmed in Lakeland. It was actually Lutz, thanks to eagle eyed followers. :) I may have had Lakeland on my mind when I posted that, sorry.

Cat-Sized Rats Breeding in Florida? →

Thanks to a post by lbjefries I read about these Gambian pouch rats that got loose on Grassy Key after a local exotic pet breeder “allow seven to escape” ten years ago. According to the article, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission has been trying to eradicate this rat with help from the USDA. Thankfully they seem to be limited to one area, so let’s hope it...

Restoring Graves in South Florida →

Today the Parks and Recreation department will be petitioning the city to let volunteers begin restoration at Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach. It has been in decline for a long time and it’s a very important part of our history. I hope our local officials see the importance of approving this request and I can’t wait to see the results :)
